Further prayers for my marriage

These are further useful prayers to pray for my spouse and marriage. In prayer I roughly subdivide my time between the 3 main sections. I find it useful to have these things written out so that I can pray in a structured and directed way.

1. THE TYPE OF HUSBAND THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE

2. THE TYPE OF MARRIAGE THAT I WOULD LIKE US TO HAVE

3. THAT GOD WOULD BRING HIM!

1. THE TYPE OF SPOUSE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE
(These following items are obviously deeply relevant to me!)

Above all, the man that You Lord would want for me.

a.His relationship with God:
–Someone who has made up his mind, above all else, to live for Christ
–Someone who is committed to a lifelong pursuit of all that is holy, all that is God, with all that he is, and all that he has
–Someone who is already deep in his understanding of and knowledge of God and God’s ways and Christlikeness, someone who is able to lead me
–A fervent commitment to read the Bible and to obey the Bible
–Someone who loves to pray

Beyond faith issues; a man filled with pragmatic common-sense and wisdom; blessed with excellent judgement, who looks after his body, but also a man who loves to eat!

b. His ambition
–Someone who is as ambitious as I am, for the things of God, as well as for non faith-oriented things
–Someone who is going in the same direction as I am, who dreams the same kind of dreams
–Someone who invests himself into excellence, always eager to learn new things, but still does not live to work; someone who would spontaneously make time for his clingy wife right in the midst of his daily schedule – coffee shop dates, extended lunches – ideally, someone who is self-employed, like I am, so that our working and our living together would be tightly intricated, where we are constantly in one another’s “hair”.

c. His own desire for the marriage
–Someone who has a temperament that is naturally similar to mine; that is, someone who is as genuinely huggie-wuggie as I am (I daresay that only someone like this would want to marry me!)
–Someone who wants to be married as much as I do
–Someone who would invest into the marriage as much as I would

2. THE TYPE OF MARRIAGE THAT I WOULD LIKE US TO HAVE
-The kind of marriage where God is absolutely, incontrovertibly at the centre of our marriage, and the true leader of our marriage

A loving marriage
-A marriage where we are bound together deeply in mutual unqualified unconditional love, literally living to serve God through our service to one another
-The kind of marriage where we are tightly bound together in profound love: truly one heart, one soul
-So much love, so much laughter!

Speaking the same love language
-Huggie-Wuggie (of course!) The kind of marriage that is very tactile, where we are always somehow finding ourselves gently holding one another or otherwise making contact, where we can’t keep our hands off one another in the Huggie-Wuggie sense or in any other sense! Also talking, holding hands, etc etc!

A marriage that is built to last:
-Being able to build a great foundation of friendship and communication between us
-Excellent and beautiful communication: the kind of marriage where we can talk freely and candidly to one another, even to express criticism and disappointment where necessary
-The kind of marriage that starts strong and keeps growing
– A marriage that is not about public show or public approval; that is literally about us and our God
-A deeply passionate marriage in the sexual sense

Service to God, one another and the wider community
-A marriage that looks beyond the two of us to the wider community: any children that God might bless us with, our wider families, our local communities, society at large. That God would make us a blessing to those around us

3. THAT GOD WOULD BRING HIM!
-That he and I would both know! That he and I would both want it
-That there would be no awkwardness in our interaction with one another
-That God would enable us to have a shared platform where we can get to know one another thoroughly and in a non-threatening way for at least 2 full years before considering one another romantically

I don’t usually bother to pray for my own role in the marriage. That is because I cover all those things in my regular prayer for myself anyway. That is, I never bother to pray for myself to be a wife who pursues Christlike character as in my regular prayers I am desperately praying that I will pursue Christlikeness whether or not I get married. However, I’m thinking as I write this that that might be a huge oversight on my part and it might be worthwhile to pray specifically for myself as a future wife. In that case, key issues to cover would be:
1. The character thing, as above in the prayers for my husband
2. Common-sense, eg to not reveal too much in my blog posts of what should be private between myself and my husband!
3. A submissive attitude

Bible Verses:
Psalm 37v4:

Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
