This is the most controversial idea on my blog! I advise that you should evaluate someone’s character for two full years before allowing yourself to consider him (or her) romantically. Then only proceed to consider them romantically if they consistently demonstrate outstanding character, and an ongoing pursuit of outstanding character.

This is my most controversial idea…or it was. In the years since I first suggested it, there have been so many accounts of so many bad relationships published online that I suspect that this “two year evaluation” idea seems a lot less unrealistic now than it initially did…
